When life is not "Picture Perfect" Week 2- Wedoff Photography

March 28, 2020  •  4 Comments

Hello,

How did you fare during week 2 of quarantine? If you are like me, I hit the ceiling. I felt all the emotions a human can possibly feel within the last two weeks. On one hand, I am grateful for this time to be home. I have the opportunity to create a positive environment for my kids to be able to make awesome memories during this scary time in our lives. However, on the other hand I am stressed beyond normal because I am trying to stay calm and create a safe learning environment that is still fun for my kids who now have also become my students. I have become overwhelmed. I may have lost it a few times this week; ok I lost it like a screaming person who just won the $500 jackpot at bingo. I have experienced again this week that life is not always picture perfect.

Our emotions are everywhere. Having to tell my kids the events that they have been looking forward to are being canceled daily as this virus continues to invade our lives and then watching their reactions go from over the top upset to now just a hunched shoulder breaks my heart. They are accepting this as their new normal. My youngest has been planning her 5th birthday party since she was 4.5 years old. It is in 3 weeks and I had to approach her with a pop up idea of having a totally cool birthday party in the summer! Thank goodness she liked the idea because life is not always picture perfect.

When my husband and I watch the news at night after the girls are in bed, we are sadden by the ever increasing statics of death and new cases. We are scared about the ripple effects such as the rapid rise in unemployment and how that is going to effect the economy and the mental health and welfare of others long after this virus is under control. We are nervous how this will forever change the way we live and interact with others. Will we find a cure for this virus? I hope so, but until then life will not always picture perfect.

So what is the point of this blog today, it is to simply remind us that life is not always picture perfect. We are going to let our emotions get the best of us at times. Our children will be resilient and will see the good in the world again. And most importantly, these times matter too. Even if they are not picture perfect they will still shape us. Capture these times so that you will be able to reflect on a very scary chapter in your life and that you prevailed! Please also check-in on others by phone or write a note to someone. These are trying times for all and spreading a little kindness will go far in someone's life. This is why my kids ate cupcakes for breakfast, it is not picture perfect nor healthy, but it created a memory and I got 25 minutes to myself while they decorated. It was a Win-Win! Please if you need anything, just reach out. I may not be physically able to help you right now due to "Stay and Shelter", but I can still help in other ways.

Cheers,

Jamielynn and Nick
